Hope you are well.
September is upon us and even though we have nice days to come, we all know that cooler temperatures mean back to our schedules and mat weaving.
News:
If you look back in a newsletter I wrote a few months ago, you will remember the people in Zimbabwe who started the milk bag project with 4 boxes of bags. They have been making mats and are excited to tell me that they want the project to continue. They are able to sell their mats and use the money for their family needs. I am happy to tell you that the mission who is helping them is sending a container in mid-October, and this year they want 4 skids (140 boxes). This is fantastic, and I am very happy the people are working at improving their lives with their own hard work and initiative.
Frames:
The frames I advertised in last months newsletter are almost gone. I have only a few left and if you are interested, let me know.
Sizes: One 7 loop frame.. at my home in Kleinburg
One 6 loop frame at Canadian food for Children
Several frames in Ajax, not sure of the sizes
If you are interested in picking up a frame (s), let me know and I will put you in contact with the people who have them so you can arrange a time to meet.
Mat count and Pick up your Bags Day:
So far this year we have donated 3815 mats to people in need.
Our next mat drop off at my home and bag pick up to continue your work will be on Wednesday, September 7th. If you can’t make it on the 7th, let me know and we will make other arrangements to meet you on another day.
You can also pick up bags or drop off mats at Canadian Food for Children in Mississauga at 1258 Lakeshore Rd. E. They are open Monday to Friday from 8AM until noon. The warehouse is not open in the afternoons or on Weekends.
Remember if you drop off mats at CFFC let me know your mat count so I can add it to the list.
Thank you for all your help, and remember to come on September 7th for your milk bags.
Below are a couple of pics: one is of Dr. Andrew Simone with a boy holding a mat in El Salvador, and the other is one of children receiving food donations using milk bags in Kanyemu, Africa. I’m not sure of the country where this village is, but Dr. Simone sends containers to several African countries and many people are helped with basic needs like food, clothing, school and medical supplies as well as milk bag mats.
Take Care,
Angela
