Get busy… Upcycle milk bags, make mats to sleep on

Hello everyone,

As a new season begins and children go back to school, our Milk Bag Project continues. Unfortunately, we are not receiving donated bags from the manufacturer; this means it’s time to reach out to our networks: friends, school communities, church groups and volunteer circles. Please ask people to save, clean, dry and flattened milk bags. NO scrunched bags please!!! Flat bags make it much easier for our volunteers to process the bags.

So far this year, we have donated 3179 mats to people in need –  an incredible accomplishment.

We have a couple special requests:

– A team member, who lives in the Lindsay area is requesting – pre-looped strings of 3’s and 4’s. If you are a teacher or a group leader in that area and prefer cutting and looping over weaving, this is a great way to contribute.. A “Cutting and Looping Club” could be the perfect way to get involved. Every part of this project, from cutting and tying to weaving, plays a vital role to make this project work. If you can help this lady, let me know and I will connect her with you.

– Another group in the Stoney Creek (Hamilton) area has a number of “Peg Looms” that she would like to donate. Google Peg Looms and you will see what I mean… they make mats about 30 inches wide.. large enough for one person. Again, let me know if you are interested in a peg loom and I will put you in contact with the lady who has them.

Thank you for continuing to support this meaningful initiative,

Angela

Keep those bags coming, PS.. one of our dedicated team members in Moncton, NB sent me this photo.. this just shows you how committed she is to this project. She has a group at a retirement home who love this worthwhile project, and enjoy socializing with their friends.
