Keep the mats coming!

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are well. You may have noticed that my newsletters have become less frequent. It’s not because there is nothing happening – quite the opposite. I simply like to wait until I have something meaningful to share.

Although we are not getting the rejected milk bags from the manufacturer, the mats keep coming. Every time I see another shipment of mats arrive at my door, I am reminded of the dedication and generosity of our volunteers. Your commitment to collecting bags, weaving mats and supporting this project continues to amaze me.

So far this year, we have distributed 1612 mats to people in need around the world.

Sadly, ongoing conflicts and humanitarian crises have left countless families displaced and without even the most basic necessities. While we wish these circumstances did not exist, it is reassuring to know that our mats are providing comfort, dignity and practical support to those facing difficult situations.

On a more personal note, I would like to pay tribute to someone whose contributions to our community were truly extraordinary. A lady named Sandra, whom I spoke with at least once a month passed away suddenly one week ago. Sandra was the heart behind the Recycle Reuse program and dedicated much of her life to helping others. She collected, eye glasses, poptabs, stamps, mittens, hats, scarves and of course milk bags. More importantly, she inspired people to get involved. She taught people how to weave mats, distributed milk bags to volunteers, collected finished mats and either had them delivered to me or sent them directly to Canadian Food for Children.

Sandra’s passing was sudden and a tremendous shock to her family, friends and all who knew her. I am still finding it difficult to accept that we will never share another phone conversation. Her kindness and unwavering commitment to helping others touched many lives.

To Sandras’s family, I (we) extend my (our) deepest sympathy. She will not be forgotten and greatly missed.

Thank you, as always for your continued support.

Until then, enjoy the summer and stay in touch; I always love hearing from you.

Angela
