Upcycle , keep milk bags out of landfills, learn how to make strings

Hi Everyone,

I am sorry that I missed sending you a newsletter at the beginning of June; things piled up and I was very busy.

All is well, and the end of the school year is here. The teachers are bringing me the mats their students have made throughout the year. I will quickly work at getting the mats delivered to Canadian Food for Children, so people in need can benefit from your labours.

Thank you for your ongoing dedication to our milk bag recycling effort. Together, we are making a positive impact on our environment and helping those in need. Since, I am no longer receiving the “rejected” bags from the manufacturer, we need to expand our reach and collect milk bags from friends, acquaintances, churches, community centres, etc. Your continued support helps us achieve our mission of repurposing these everyday items into valuable mats.

When you ask people for milk bags, remember to tell them that we only use the outside colourful bag, not the inside smaller bags. Tell them that when they take a bag  out of their fridge, to open or plump them up and set them on their counter for the day. This allows the water inside the bag to evaporate and dry the bag. Tell them to flatten the bag and save them for you. A flat bag is the beginning of our weaving work. PLEASE remind people not to scrunch up the bag and throw them in a garbage bag.. no one likes getting a big garbage bag of scrunched, wet bags.

It would be really helpful if ready to weave strings were donated instead of just flattened bags. As you can see in the instructions below, this is really easy and would be very much appreciated.

I have 2 four loop frames (approximately 40 x45 inches) to donate. One I have at my home and the other is in Scarborough. Please contact me if you would like a free frame.

Enjoy the lovely weather and hope to see you if you are in my area,

Angela
