Angela did many workshops and pick- ups which ended in us reaching almost 600 mats for January to May.
MILKBAGSunlimited was a huge success in Dufferin – Peel during the annual Conference of the Ontario Association of Parents in Catholic Education on May 24. Parents and teachers alike are anxious tol bring the MILBAGSunlimited sleeping mats program to their school when the new school year starts.
The City of Markham collected 40 mats from various community groups. We delivered them to Canada Food for Children where high school students were helping to offload the vehicle and… off they went, along with other donations.
History was made on Saturday May 31 as over 8,850 members of Girl Guides of Canada , Ontario Council met for the 2014 Rally at Canada Wonderland. With over 100 different activities that were offered to members MILKBAGSunlimited was one of the favorites! Lead by founder Angela Kesthely and coached by 10 volounteers , the participants cut, looped, weaved mats and stuffed many pillows…. Trying their weaving skills for short amounts of time, 25 sleeping mats for needy countries were completed and another 6-8 are almost done.
Best of all, recognizing the benefits of saving landfills from indestructible milk bags and at the same time providing sleeping mats and pillows for those who have no beds, quite a number of Girl Guide Groups are committing to add milk mat weaving into their upcoming activities.
