I wanted to send you Christmas greetings and a letter to let you know what we accomplished this year with the milk bag project. Last year at this time I told you that the weaving of the milk bags had made making of the mats so much easier and it even gave children as young as 6 years old the ability to make mats. I had someone say, let’s bump up our dream number of mats to 1000 for 2014… I thought, that is a lot of mats. Well, guess what, we not only made a thousand, but we made 707 more than our dream number. As of Wednesday this week, our last shipment of mats went to the depot. Our total was a whopping 1707 mats for this year. With what we have made over the previous years, our total is 3060 mats. What a lovely thought!!
The mats have travelled far, and many people have benefitted from them. As you know they go all over the world to people who have nothing but cardboard or old pieces of fabric to sleep on. Your work has not gone unnoticed. As I travel around metro starting new groups of people weaving, they are amazed at the work that has been done so far. New schools have started to weave; in fact I was at a school yesterday and taught the students how to make mats. They were so excited the teacher could not get them to go out for recess and they did not even want their lunch. The teacher had to tell them she was on yard duty over the noon hour and they had to take a break.
I know my ideals might be lofty… but how about we aim for 2015 mats for the year 2015…
As we all know, we have much to be thankful for; so at this time I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best in 2015.
Thank you for all your support and for your involvement in the milk bag project,
